The main function of Fire Detection and Alarm Systems is to find the source of the fire and extinguish it in a short time. Projects made without taking into account the time it takes to find the source of the fire or not choosing the type of detection elements correctly will cause the system to not fully fulfill its main function. In addition, failure to select the sensor type in accordance with the environmental conditions will cause false alarms and will result in the loss of reliability of the system.

Detector selection is an important element. The detector must distinguish between fire and daily events. It should be able to distinguish the gases present in the environment due to cigarette smoke, steam and stored products from the smoke of a real fire. In addition, detectors must be placed correctly, taking into account their detection areas.

There are two types of smoke detectors: optical and ionization. They are effective against smoke (White and black smoke). When making the selection, the fire risk in the area to be protected should be taken into consideration. In ionization smoke detectors, an electric current flows between two electrodes. When smoke comes in, this current decreases. In optical smoke detectors, smoke is detected by a light distribution.

Heat detectors can be of the type set to constant temperature or set to detect an increase in temperature. These are less sensitive than other detectors. It should be used in places where small fires are likely to break out. It may not detect small temperature changes. When choosing heat detectors, care should be taken to choose 20 degrees above the ambient temperature.

Fire alarm buttons are products that enable personnel to raise an alarm in the event of a fire by activating the alarm system. These buttons; It must be well mounted at a height of 1.4 meters from the ground and at points that can be easily reached without obstruction, without having to go more than 30 meters from any point to raise an alarm.

Alarm sirens are electronic sirens that must be audible throughout the building in order to alarm or evacuate the occupants of the building.

The user should regularly perform the following tests and maintenance. The system must be constantly tested and necessary services must be provided.
